Message From Dr. Tiffany Spicer

Dear Students & Families,
In April 2014 I was given the awesome opportunity to serve THE Leander High School. When I accepted this opportunity I was extremely excited to embark on this new journey, however, I had no idea what was to come… Taking on the role of principal at Leander High School has been one of THE BEST experiences of my life. I have been made to feel like I am truly a part of a wonderful family full of students, teachers, and parents. You all are the reason we have been successful over the last three years!
As many of you know I was in graduate school when I came to Leander High School. This past spring I defended my dissertation and became Dr. Spicer. Many of our students and parents celebrated me but also asked me what was next… I have been given the opportunity to continue my service to Leander HS and all of the other schools in Leander ISD as the Executive Director of College and Career Pathways.
Although I am so excited to begin this new journey of my career, this change is bittersweet. I truly love the culture, campus and community that we have created. I knew this day would come but I did not know it would come this soon. I am honored to be asked to serve in this capacity by Dr. Troxell. I promise to represent our Lion Pride in everything I do 110%. As we close out the year I will continue to serve and give 110% in the role of Leander High School principal as the district seeks input on the new principal for the coming school year.
I want to take the time to say THANK YOU to ALL of you for allowing me the opportunity to serve and pour into our students, teachers, parents, and community. I have truly been blessed and I have grown so much from working with you all. I am excited I will be able to continue my career in Leander ISD and I will continue to support our Leander Lions and our rising Lions.
With a sincere heart I say Thank You,
Tiffany T. Spicer

Senior Parents & Students

Hello Senior Parents & Families,

I hope you all are having a great last year of high school! As we bring the fall semester to a close it is important that we discuss a few things for the Class of 2017.  In almost every Insider that is sent I mention something about Project Graduation.  As a high school educator I am aware of the purpose for project grad, and I support it 100%.  However, as I share out about it I wonder if you all are aware of the purpose?

Project Graduation is a program offered by high schools to provide an alcohol and drug free event for students to celebrate graduation.  We know teenagers will be excited and want to have “fun” but our goal is to make sure they have fun in a safe alcohol-free and drug-free environment.  In order to make this event happen we need your support.

Right now we have approximately 5 people trying to raise money for over 450 seniors!  In short, we need your help!  We have to raise money to make sure our students can have this safe event.  There is a Square account where you can make a monetary donation that is the simplest way to take part in Project Graduation.   http://lhs.my-pta.org/content.asp?PageID=7

I am also attaching the website for you to see what else you can take part in to support your child and our students.  I am not one to ask for money or even talk about it, but when our goal is $18,000 and we are half way through the school year with $2,300 for this event I am concerned.  Please take the time to contribute monetary donations to the Square account or take part in the various fundraisers to support our seniors.

Our students only graduate high school once and we want to make this event amazing for them. J

Thank you for your time and consideration.  I have attached the website link (http://lhs.my-pta.org/content.asp?PageID=7) and the coordinator email (Vicky Motiu at vmotiu@yahoo.com) for project graduation.

Thank you in advance for supporting our students before they leave us for college and beyond.

January 9, 2017

Hello Leander Lion Family,

Happy New YEAR!!!!!  The first week of 2017 was great! We are excited about the semester and it was so great to see our students back in school. I want to update you on everything that took place and what is to come in the following weeks (this letter will be lengthy this time).

PRIDE Time
During the first week of school we held Class Meetings (2017, 2018, 2019, & 2020). During the meetings we reminded students of the expectations regarding grades (As & Bs should be the norm), attendance (Be Present Daily), and our expectations as members of the Human Race. We are a Lion Family regardless of backgrounds, beliefs, ethnicity, or gender. This is an important fact was reiterated to our students so we do not forget we are a Leander Lion Family and we have Lion Pride!

This semester we have revamped our PRIDE Time and created a model where students still have PRIDE Time daily, however, the students will flow through each of their classes during PRIDE Time with the class that corresponds to a specific period in their schedule. For example, on an “A3 Day”, all students will report to their 3rd period class during PRIDE Time on that day. Teachers will be able to take attendance through iTCCS and parents will be notified if students are not present. This will allow students to cycle through all of their actual classes once every two weeks, and should provide additional instructional opportunities for staff and students. (This revised Pride Time will be noted on student schedules as a “10th” period daily). We will provide teacher copies of the schedule and provide copies for our students (a copy of the Pride Time Calendar is attached). We will start this process during the 3rd week of school.

Report Cards
Report Cards will be mailed this week!

Student Holiday
Monday, January 16, 2017 Martin Luther King, Jr. Day

Commissioner of Education Report
Last week I shared a report with staff that was submitted to our Legislature for the 2017 session. In the report the commissioner was asked to assign a letter grade to each campus and district, using an A-F letter grading system. This report is a proposed projection of what we would get under the system that is to be implemented in 2018. The report has been made public and the “What If” grades have been publicized for all public schools in the state of Texas. I will be sharing this information with our families and community at two meetings. If you are interested in learning more please attend one of the following:

Site Base Meeting January 24, 2017 @ 4:30 PM in our Library
PTSA General Meeting January 26, 2017 @ 6:00 PM in the Main Office

Please note that our campus and district rating for 2016-2017 is “Met Standard”.

We are truly excited about this semester as we get our students prepared for their future! Please check our website for various events and activities at THE Leander High School.

Sincerely,
Dr. Tiffany Spicer

Hello Leander Lion Family,

We are DONE! Our students and teachers just completed the 2016 Fall Semester. Thank you parents for your partnership and thank you to our teachers for leading our wonderful students.

I want to take this time to say, “Thank You” to our teachers and students for the wonderful turnout for “Midterm Mania” on Monday night. IT was a huge success. So much so we will host it in the spring as well. We will start planning in February/March to get the word out.

Also, THANK YOU to our boosters, parents, community members, and volunteers for the gifts for our teachers. We were able to give over 150+ gifts to our faculty and staff. Please know we could not have done this without your support, so we say thank you.

We hope that you and your family have a wonderful Holiday Break. Students, please take the time to rest and decompress so you are 110% for the spring semester. Please note when we return students will have their schedules given to them in 1st period. We will have their first periods posted by student ID.

During the first week we will also have Closed Pride Times for about two weeks. This will give us time to have our class meetings and remind students of our expectations and set the tone for the remainder of the year. We will also share information regarding the new look of our Pride Time.
