November 7, 2016

Good Afternoon Lion Family,

We hope you are havig a wonderful Monday. As we start the beginning of the 3rd six weeks we want to share a couple of reminders! As shared through the Insider, Leander High School is a polling place.

The Texas Election Code (Sec. 43.031) specifies that an entity that owns or controls a public building shall make the building available for use as a polling place in any election that covers territory in which the building is located.
Please be aware that Leander High School has been requested as a polling place on Tuesday, November 8, 2016.  The polling place will be located Don Tew Performing Arts Center (PAC) foyer.  To help ensure the safety of our students and staff, and to minimize disruption to the learning environment, we have made every effort to select a location near an outside entrance that will limit election worker and voter access to the campus as much as possible.

Parents should also be aware that campaigning for or against a candidate, measure or political party during the voting period and within 100 feet of a building being used as a polling place is prohibited by the Texas Election Code (section 61.003).  Consequently, students are prohibited from wearing, displaying or distributing campaign related clothing, buttons, stickers, etc. at school on Election Day.  Please be sure your child does not wear clothing to school on November 8 that supports or opposes a candidate, measure or political party.

Veteran's Day Ceremony

On Friday, November 11, 2016 we will honor our Veterans at our Annual Veteran's Day Ceremony. We will begin promptly at 10:30 AM in the Don Tew Performin Arts Center. We would love to have you with us as we honor our veterans in our community and school.

Band is going to STATE!

I want to take this time to celebrate our amazing band program! This marching season has been filled with success. Tomorrow they have prelims for state and Wednesday there are finals. On Wednesday evening they are headed to Indianopolis for Bands of America! We are so excited for their excpetional work on and off of the field. A special shout out to our Parent Volunteers for ALL of the support and sacrifice made to get our program to this point

Thanksgiving Break

All LISD Campuses and Departments will be closed the week of November 21-25 for our Thanksgiving Break. When we return from break we will only have three weeks of school remaining for the semester.

Final Exams

Final Exams will be given the last week of school December 12-16. Please note that we expect all students to be in school for exams. In the event a student has to miss school during the last week or two of December students will have to make up exams in January. Please make sure your student is at school and prepared to give 110%.
