Hello Leander Lion Family,
Happy New YEAR!!!!! The first week of 2017 was great! We are excited about the semester and it was so great to see our students back in school. I want to update you on everything that took place and what is to come in the following weeks (this letter will be lengthy this time).
During the first week of school we held Class Meetings (2017, 2018, 2019, & 2020). During the meetings we reminded students of the expectations regarding grades (As & Bs should be the norm), attendance (Be Present Daily), and our expectations as members of the Human Race. We are a Lion Family regardless of backgrounds, beliefs, ethnicity, or gender. This is an important fact was reiterated to our students so we do not forget we are a Leander Lion Family and we have Lion Pride!
This semester we have revamped our PRIDE Time and created a model where students still have PRIDE Time daily, however, the students will flow through each of their classes during PRIDE Time with the class that corresponds to a specific period in their schedule. For example, on an “A3 Day”, all students will report to their 3rd period class during PRIDE Time on that day. Teachers will be able to take attendance through iTCCS and parents will be notified if students are not present. This will allow students to cycle through all of their actual classes once every two weeks, and should provide additional instructional opportunities for staff and students. (This revised Pride Time will be noted on student schedules as a “10th” period daily). We will provide teacher copies of the schedule and provide copies for our students (a copy of the Pride Time Calendar is attached). We will start this process during the 3rd week of school.
Report Cards will be mailed this week!

Commissioner of Education Report
Last week I shared a report with staff that was submitted to our Legislature for the 2017 session. In the report the commissioner was asked to assign a letter grade to each campus and district, using an A-F letter grading system. This report is a proposed projection of what we would get under the system that is to be implemented in 2018. The report has been made public and the “What If” grades have been publicized for all public schools in the state of Texas. I will be sharing this information with our families and community at two meetings. If you are interested in learning more please attend one of the following:
Site Base Meeting January 24, 2017 @ 4:30 PM in our Library
PTSA General Meeting January 26, 2017 @ 6:00 PM in the Main Office
Please note that our campus and district rating for 2016-2017 is “Met Standard”.
We are truly excited about this semester as we get our students prepared for their future! Please check our website for various events and activities at THE Leander High School.
